Appunti di viaggio / My journey diary 13 Aug 2008 2nd part

E adesso? Come faremo a tornare a Revò?

(continued from the previous posts)
After the visit to Canyon del Rio News, back in Romallo, we do a little snack with homemade bread from breakfast, local cheese, fruit and fresh water of the fountain. We decide to wait for the bus to get to terminus, Fondo, a town from which other paths start. Yes, we are not yet tired and this time we want to go to the waterfall of Tret, about 1200 meters above the sea level!
The trail is actually parallel to the asphalt road in Tret direction. It should take at least one couple of kilometers on it, being careful not to be invested by motorists… we have risked, even remaining cautiously on the sidelines of the road. The problem is that many motorists run at high speed on roads where they should maintain a moderate one, such as in mountain, where bottlenecks not allow hikers, however forced to make small stretches on the road, to be far from the vehicles. Then you have to consider to be very carefully in adventuring like us even if the paths are marked on tourist guides!
After these two kilometres of anxiety here is that our left begins the ‘strada vecla’ to Tret. It is really a beautiful walk on a broad path of the mountain. Although at its side there’s the asphalt road, you don’t see it why it is at a higher level, while the path almost always remains flat. Indeed, the path is climbing, but the climb is gentle and well-distributed and for a short more than an hour's journey you realize 170 meters climb. But you’re distracted by the many views on the left: below always runs the Rio Novella – that now accompanies us throughout this sunny day – even here within a much higher but broader canyon.
But just around there isn’t the rocky landscape that we met in the morning. It's all the green of woods, essences that change as we climb. Along the path, to which edges several types of flowers sprout, many colored black and orange butterflies will accompany you but they are really beautiful! And in the last stretch is wonderful seeing surrounded by thirty metres and more tall trees! You feel really part of nature (and not higher, as the most believe to be!)… pity that some parts of woods were used to be cut, in fact in the surroundings there are several sawmills. After all we know, wood here is one of the most used materials for the buiding industry.
And just before reaching the town of Tret, we cross a small sawmill that is in the elbow of a bend, next to it the water of a little river runs through. Then we return to the asphalt road for a while, along farms and stables. Here the landscape is more typical of the high mountain. Now there are no more cultivated countries but large pastures where you would to lay down.
But we, always with times dictated by the bus timetables, go ahead, among the houses, we do filled with fresh spring water that flows from fountains, and then we approach the point where the trail to waterfall begins.
At a cross some hikers advise us that this stretch will be difficult but it worth at all!
Then we descend… and what a descent! It starts a short stretch along the countryside, and then we forward in the forest on a path with steps made with wood trunks. Oh God what a effort! The steps are very high and gradient is likely to get the fear of losing the balance and finish below! It is a beautiful path, approximately fifteen minutes and the most difficult piece is the first descent, while then it is simpler. In the final part you have to climb until arriving to a sort of wood balcony, which directly overlooks… on the waterfall! What emotion! I must confess that I could not withhold tears! It will be for the effort, it will be for the beauty of scenery that presents itself to our eyes: a leap of 100 meters, with a rainbow that appears fixed under the sun! What a wonder! We rest for a while drinking and enjoying this vision. We are too high for being able to go to the bottom of the waterfall. There is a small path, but it is too steep and slippery. And we are satisfied to enjoy the water sprays coming right where we are.
We do not want to go away, but we have to redo the whole road on the return and we are in full afternoon. Hence we leave the show to other hikers that have appeared and say goodbye to the waterfall that will remain vivid in our memories.
Back and return to our surprise we do not the same effort on the steep staircase!
In traced back to Tret, our attention is called by a strange sound in the sky. A cry? A scream? A lament? No, an eagle! It is there in the sky much above our heads! She turns around making great circles and increasingly going on! We take our binoculars and we see that at times she seems capriole in the face! What a beautiful sight, is the first time we are witnessing a flight of a rapacious in the wilderness! As if she is greeting us!
So our path backward is a little lighter and fast and within an hour we return to the Fondo, where we should take the bus… We wait and we wait but the bus does not arrive… oh no!
Would you like to see that… yes, we were wrong to read timetable! And now? How do we return to Revò? There aren’t buses anymore until the day after… and this is a little risk of a holiday without vehicles of own propriety! If you are dependent on public transport you should be very careful about times!
Then we try to ask at a hotel there if there’s a taxi service. Phew, there’s a private one, which in a short time picks us and with a minimum spending it brings us to our housing. And the driver was very cordial… he told us a lot of curiosity of the place in the back route, like that of the two bears at S. Romedio. But this is a stage that we will do the next day!
We are tired, but how many beautiful things we saw today!
